Keeping Up with Parco!
30 June - 13 July
The end of June fell on a Monday, which meant it was time for our Speaking Club. But before that, we had a meeting with Irene, local dancer to discuss the upcoming Mu Dance Workshop.
Since it was also Karla’s last Speaking Club session, we got surprised . We were hosted by Jack, a member of the club, at his home. He prepared a lovely dinner for us, during which we shared our future plans and to make it more fun, we discussed and confirmed some well-known stereotypes from our countries.
July started with the Don't Look Up youth exchange project in Bergolo, organized by Vagamondo. The project focused on fake news—how to recognize it in everyday life—and raising awareness around social media use.
Almost our entire team took part: Merche, our coordinator, was one of the facilitators, Karla was in charge of visibility and Ebru and I supported the kitchen team. Our tasks starting by Karla, she documented the activities, edited photos, and created content for Vagamondo’s social media. In the kitchen, we supported the cook throughout the day. The menu focused on vegetarian and vegan meals to promote sustainable cooking. We used seasonal produce from local farms to prepare lighter dishes suitable for the summer heat.
A lot of vegetables were chopped, many dishes washed, and the week passed faster than we expected. It was a refreshing change of environment—we hang out with friends in Bergolo, enjoyed concert there ( during summer almost every weekend Bergolo hosted a concerts in theatre), met new people from the project, and spent our last days with Karla, who finished her volunteering at the end of the project.
Thank you Karla, for being part of team and our friend.
After Bergolo, we headed to our mid-term training in Rome. Due to a strike, our travel plans were slightly changed, but we eventually made it to Frascati. It was great to reunited with some of the people we met during our on-arrival training. One of the girls had a birthday, so we celebrated it with her.
In the following days, we participated in activities about Youthpass, post-volunteering opportunities, and had open spaces for workshops based on our interests. I led an art therapy workshop called Eyes in Emotion, which received good feedback. Another volunteer ran a workshop on concerns and safe spaces. And of course, we also had plenty of fun—dance workshops, karaoke, Just Dance nights, and games like Werewolves made the evenings lively and memorable.
Coming back to Monesiglio got us excited for the MU dance workshop which started right after the weekend. We hope you're just as excited to hear about the cool vibes from the workshops!
